36th Division helmet from the battlefield
This helmet was found in a farm about 10 years ago in a little village north of Montelimar, 36th Division area.
The helmet was recovered by the farmer after the soldier was killed in his field right in front of his farmhouse. There is a name in the liner but
I cant read it. I have another shell found in the Vosges 36th Div area and it had the same paint texture. It looks like at least the 141st Infantry had similar repainted helmets for the invasion of Southern France.

Hi Gilles, very nice, the paint really reminds the texture on the helmet Pete O. found in the same location. Always nice to see a period repainted M1, I have a few as well.

Here is another 36th pot from Bruyeres, Vosges, 141st area. It has the same repaint job as the one displayed above and has
been well used to heat water and food. It is interesting to note that the chinstraps have been cut short. In the movie "The Battle of San Pietro" we can see a few 141st helmets with the same shortened chinstraps.

Cottonbaler:
There is no official evidence of 36th stencils up to late 1944.
But.. if you have a sharp look at the footage below you will
see tiny T-Patches on some of the T-Patchers' helmets.
Some proud 36th Division frontline soldiers had stencils on their helmets or just a T-Patch etched in the paint,
but it was not a common/standard practice.

Ok, thank you very much Dogface44.
I am in the habit of seeing badges on the helmets of the 3rd. It is for that.

Re: 36th Division helmet from the battlefield
great helmets!
painted T-Patches are quite rare here in the Vosges.
I came across two helmets with etched T-Patch on the front, coming from the Vosges.
That's really great finds!
