Beautiful SAND Finish
This is for sale in the appropriate section but I'd like to know more about it for personal knowledge.
Its a super finish and great color and paint. Still crisp and clean. What time period is this? Sand makes me this post war but it's a front seam and has super condition Khaki straps. Seems like a perfect late WW2 helmet that got a sand finish added.
Anyone know when the sand finish started? Late war? Just Post war?
Thanks

Re: Beautiful SAND Finish
To my knowledge during the Korean War or probably just before or leading up to, the Army knew it was going to need more serviceable M1s, so they salvaged what they could and you have three different M1 finishes in Korean War era...1).WWII cork finish M1s that were just re used or issued for the war as is the way they were from WWII...2). WWII M1s be it front or rear seam that were depot repaired and repainted as needed , they were dipped in some kind of solvent to clean and this dissolved the cork and paint finish so they were repainted and sand finish applied...3). factory finished and produced M1s with sand finish?.....I have seen most of this info in Reynosas and Armolds books, there is even a Army chart or checklist on whether or not M1s were serviceable or beyond repair...very interesting if you have Steel Pots or its in the second volume Painted Steel you have to check it out.......Im sure there is more to this and maybe others have more info too.....mike

Do you want me to delete the listing you have on this? Or is it still for sale?
